Autumn Fires
In the other gardens
And all up the vale,
From the autumn bonfires
See the smoke trail!

The wind is passing through.
Whether the weather ?
Whether the weather be fine,
Or whether the weather be not,
Whether the weather be cold,
Or whether the weather be hot…
Winter Time ?

A frosty, fiery sleepy-head;
Winter ?
When icicles hang by the wall,
And Dick the shepherd blows his nail,
And Tom bears logs into the hall,
And milk comes frozen home in pail…
